满分作文:

Honesty makes us trust each other. If there is no honesty, everyone will suspect others’ words and the world will go into chaos. Honesty means to vindicates those innocent and help others to improve, while a lie means a flagrant reputation, as the news media in England, the pop singer Jay in China and Bill Clinton show..

Margaret Thatcher, the first woman to be the Prince Minister of Britain, was once the Minister of Education in Heath’s Cabinet. She was a strong proponent of education at the time and was against the bill to stop free milk delivery to school-children. But her voice was lonely. Because nobody supported her, she was forced by others to carry out the bill to stop milk supply. Surges of protests were aroused, in which parents called her “Thatcher, Thatcher, milk snatcher.” Her reputation was at the lowest point. But the news media at that time didn’t comply with the government and reported the real decision of Margaret Thatcher to the public. Margaret Thatcher was vindicated; her reputation returned, even some people voted her to be the next Prime Minister, though a little. If the news media had reported otherwise, Margaret Thatcher, would have been strongly hated and opposed that she would never become the Prime Minister of the Britain. And since the Falkland Islands was retrieved by naval forces sent by Margaret Thatcher, it is likely that, if the news media had lied, England would never regain their land.

Honesty is not only the best policy for the news media, but also the most important tools between friends. Jay, a Chinese pop singer, was once a perfectionist. He wrote a song in months and modified every of his songs over 10 times. That left him no time to promote his songs and he received low popularity at the first. At the time, his best friend Lin Genghong told him the truth; he should be more prolific and spend more times on album promotion. Jay listened his advice; he composed songs faster and spent more time on promotion. Now he is one of the dominant rappers in china. If Lin Genghong hadn’t told Jay the truth, Jay would still go in his way and would soon fall into oblivion.

On the contrary to those who benefit from honesty like Margaret Thatcher and Jay, Bill Clinton proves how a lie destroys one’s life. When the sex scandal of Bill Clinton proves how a lie destroys one’s life, when the sex scandal of Bill Clinton was first revealed, Bill Clinton denied it with certainty and American people believed him. But when his secretary provided the record of their voice on cell phone, the whole state was stunned and outraged---how could a president lie to his people. Bill Clinton was impeached after the public got the truth. Though he was finally absolved because of his effective measures on economy, he received a bad reputation people will never forget.

From the success of Margaret Thatcher and Jay, we could see the significance of honesty, while the disadvantage of a lie, a flagrant reputation, is proved by Bill Clinton, whenever giving response, we should give with honesty, the only way to make others believe us and make the world harmonious.

赛达满分作文题目:

Can success be disastrous? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

赛达满分作文示例:

The power of success can be disastrous when placed in the wrong hands. Naturally, there are those who will always choose to manipulate conditions to succeed in their own endeavors, not taking into consideration the lives of those around them. On the other hand, there may be those who do not necessarily pursue selfish ends, but simply do not know where to take success once it has been achieved, thus resulting in their own self-sabotage.

Throughout history, we have seen success used wrongfully in the hands of the unworthy. Powerful leaders of nations, kingdoms, and empires, having succeeded in gaining leadership, have then used their influence wrongfully in achieving their own selfish (and sometimes twisted) goals. Nero, the Roman emperor who beat his pregnant wife to death and has been suspected of instigating the great fire of Rome in an attempt to boost his own political influence. Henry VIII of England, for whom women were beheaded for not bearing him a son, and who is rumored to have eaten eight chickens a night while English peasants starved. The notorious Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, who carried out the Spanish Inquisition. The list is endless. Even in literature, we see the corruption and downfall of society and mankind as a whole as a result of the abuse of success in the possession of those who do not deserve it, as seen in William Shakespeare’s tragedy of King Lear. In the story, societal order is replaced with chaos when there is a power shift from Lear to his evil daughters, Regan and Goneril. This order only returns to a slight degree when virtue (in the form of Lear’s good daughter, Cordelia) returns to England. Success is hazardous when awarded to the unvirtuous.

However, there may be those who are not necessarily evil of greedy in their pursuits, but merely do not know how to handle success. This proves to be just more disastrous to the individual than to anyone else, since it is the individual who will then sabotage his own success to return to his former comfort zone. Success is meant to be grown upon, not exploited or feared.

Success, when achieved by the unworthy or inexperienced, is a most disastrous element. Success is not about being happy at the expense of those about you –it is about using one’s newly gained happiness to improve the lives of others. If one reflects on the wise words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, one will never go astray: “To know that one person has breathed easier because you have lived -this is to have succeeded.”
